A Kenyan woman was paid millions to 'supply air' at a governmental organisation
Ann Ngiriti pocketed millions despite not supplying goods to NYS
Ann Ngiriti received the lump sum payment from the National Youth Service (NYS) to supply canned beef, pineapples, beans, biscuits and hammers. She however did not supply the goods.
Ngiriti on her part, said she did not tender anything and has never supplied goods or services to the government.
The woman, who is currently being probed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), says she subcontracted another unnamed individual and does not know if anything was sent to the government in return, or the final cost.
Procurement officer
“I don’t know what I supplied but I was shown the vouchers at the DCI,” the statement reads.
The 30-year old woman, who has never bid for a tender, revealed that all she did was visit the NYS college in Gilgil and request a procurement officer if she could supply foodstuff.
Her testimony is part of a probe into a graft scandal at the NYS, where 43 people are suspected to have been paid Kshs9 billion to ghost suppliers.
Some of the people investigated are thought to be pawns in a complex corruption network.
