Africa Oil Corp has announced that they have made more oil discovery in South Lokichar basin.
British exploration Company, Tullow together with its exploration partners Africa Oil Corp and Maersk Oil have announced that they have made more oil discovery in Block 10BB in the northernmost end of the South Lokichar basin.
“Africa Oil Corpis pleased to announce that following the drilling of the successful Erut-1 (Block 13T) exploration well in January, 2017, which extended the proven oil limits to the northernmost end of the South Lokichar basin, the Amosing-6 and Ngamia-10 appraisal wells in Block 10BB have now been drilled” read a statement posted at the Toronto Stock Exchange exchange where Africa Oil Corp is listed.
The companies announced that they had struck gold and found a gross oil interval of 35 metres of net gas and oil pay in the Amosing-6 well while Ngamia-10 was drilled in an untested fault compartment and encountered 65 metres of net oil pay.
As a result of this recent discovery, the companies have announces plans to extend the current exploration and appraisal campaign by a further three wells.
“The additional wells will explore further the Greater Etom complex, test an undrilled fault block adjacent to the Ekales field and drill the Ngamia-11 well which will be used for an extended water flood pilot test in conjunction with the Early Oil Pilot Scheme (EOPS).”
The discovery is good news to Kenya as it finalises plans to export the first batch of Turkana crude oil under a test programme in June.
More so Kenya’s crude oil is classified as light and sweet, meaning it has less sulphur Kenya’s crude oil is classified as light and sweet, meaning it has less sulphur (below 0.5 per cent) and therefore fetches higher prices in the global market because it is easier to refine.
