20 global hotels to open shop in Kenya — including the world's largest hotel company
The 20 facilities are expected to add 3,444 hotel rooms between now and 2023.
The Lagos-based consultancy firm, in its 2018 Pipeline report, shows the 20 facilities are expected to add 3,444 hotel rooms between now and 2023.
Some of the brands expected to grow their portfolios and rooms in the country include Wyndham, CityBlue, Hilton, Marriot, Radisson, Accor, Dusit, Swiss International and Sarovar.
Swiss International Hotels will open its initial property in Mt Kenya while Wyndham, the world's largest hotel company, will debut in Amboseli.
“Kenya and East Africa, including Ethiopia, have diversified economies with revenue from different sectors including manufacturing, service and mining, all drivers of GDP.
"They are not reliant on a single resource such as oil. This makes them more attractive and stable for investment. They are also more politically stable,” said Trevor Ward, Principal, W Hospitality Group and Hotel Partners Africa.
Best Western
The country has 80 per cent of its rooms onsite, with a huge bulk in Nairobi where there are 1,424 rooms in nine hotels due to open this year.
The Best Western Group tops the list of hotels in the pipeline, with six properties already under construction.
Likewise, the Radisson Hotel Group, which already has two operational properties in Nairobi, is set to open a third one next year.
A recent Knight Frank report showed that Kenya topped key sub Saharan Africa rivals Nigeria and Tanzania in the count of global chain hotel brands presence in the respective countries.
The East African nation has 68 global hotel brands, while Nigeria and Tanzania have 58 and 46 of the branded properties respectively.
