First Lady Margaret Kenyatta officially opens the 4th Turkana County cultural and tourism festival

The festival dubbed 'Tobong’u Lore' - meaning 'Welcome back home' in the Turkana language, was officially opened by the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
This year's theme is 'Bringing the world home; celebrating our rich culture and heritage.'
The festival which began in 2014 features dances, traditional regalia, songs, foods and various aspects of Turkana lifestyle.

The three day event is also geared towards fostering inter-community peace and unity.
It features the rich cultures of the Turkana and other communities including from Uganda, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
A beauty contest dubbed Miss Ateker will also be held as part of promoting peace between the members of the Ateker community who include the Iteso, Toposa, Turkana and Nyangatom of Ethiopia.
According to Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, the event is also aimed at promoting the county as a cradle of mankind where the first man lived.

“We are coming to celebrate peace, unity and people returning home as portrayed by this event that this is where the first man lived,” said the Governor at a press briefing in his office Wednesday ahead of the official opening Thursday.
20,000 delegates including nine Governors and leaders from across the country are expected to attend the three-day cultural event.
On Friday, Deputy President William Ruto is also expected to arrive for the event where he will be the chief guest.
Delegations from the neighbouring countries of Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia are present alongside local leaders from across the political divide.
