Inside Land Rover's latest revolutionary car that is turning heads
Land Rover has moved away from its boxy heritage and attempted a sleeker, more urban design this time around.
On a cold Friday morning, Kenyan petrol heads braved heavy traffic and cold as the skies were threatening to open up and made their way to East Africa Motors Sports grounds along Ngong Road to test-drive the much awaited all-new Discovery and brand new Range Rover Velar.
A few lucky Kenyans had been granted a chance to test drive Land Rover's two latest car models for just three short days so it was every man for himself and God for us all kind of scenario.
Business Insider SSA was not left behind and was part of the action capturing every moment as it unfolded.

“The new discovery I mean who could speak all day about what is new about this car, just on top of my head is all aluminum chassis it has lost a lot of weight, 480kg it got the same engine but just refined so all in all the car has just been improved form disco 4 which everyone loves it now got a different look, different body same disco more space that sort of thing” Ricky from Jaguar -Land Rover Experience told BI SSA.
Land Rover Defender, Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar to the all-new Discovery all meticulously parked in a single line perfect enough to produce LandRover’s ‘photo of the year’ award.
The all new Discovery, however, stood out due to its Namib Orange colour and sleek looks, every car enthusiasts could not help it but steal lustful looks at the beast.
Shape and Space
The first thing that grabs your attention about this car is its new shape.

Viewed from the front, this new Disco looks narrower smooth and powerful, with jewel-like headlamps and a faster windscreen angle break with Discovery tradition daytime running lamps effectively delivering a modern appearance with a distinctive new light signature.
However, if you a purist who is yet to get over the legendary boxy shape of land rovers you may feel a little bit cheated.
All-New Discovery is spacious and can comfortably fit seven adults.
Headroom and legroom is more than enough while up to 2,406 litres of luggage space is available.
Engine and fuel consumption

All-New Discovery comes with an impressive choice of diesel and petrol engines, each one delivering effortless performance, refinement and efficiency.
A range which includes the latest generation, high efficiency 3.0 litre Turbocharged Diesel engine, Ingenium diesel engines, and the V6 Supercharged 250kW Petrol engine which maximises power delivery.
First edition all discovery come equipped with a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine.
Road and off road abilities
Looking at this car you may think Land rover went soft and it is a weakling compared to its siblings in terms of off-road capabilitities, how wrong and by a big margin I dare add!

All-New Discovery not only looks truly at home in the city, but also drives impeccably off-road.
What more, it comes with record towing capability of up to 3.500kg and a suite of features available to help make towing effortless and assured.
Optional Terrain Response 2 systems also monitors conditions and automatically selects the driving modes to achieve the best possible chassis and powertrain set up for the driving conditions.
Ground clearance is rated at 283mm (up 43mm) while a maximum wading depth of 900mm (an increase of 200mm) puts Discovery in a class of its own, providing unrivalled confidence when tackling both waterlogged tracks and flooded roads.
All-New Discovery is certainly capable and comfortable at the same time.

Speed and Safety
Don’t be fooled by its bulky body, All-New Discovery is fast, very fast.
Land Rover’s advanced supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine is an impressive performer.
The 340PS Si6 engine develops 450Nm of torque and powers New Discovery from 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds (0-60mph in 6.9 seconds) and its top speed is 240km/h.
The car also comes equipped with cutting-edge safety technology which heightens driver convenience and confidence.

New Discovery features the company’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system, as debuted on Discovery Sport, but includes a new pedestrian detection system that detects adult or child pedestrians, as well as other vehicles on the road and applies the brakes to stop the vehicle quickly and safely.
Blind Spot Monitor, Park Assist to Engine Drag torque Control (EDC) are also available among other safety features.
Price and comfort
Sitting in this car is pure joy driving it is endless joy.
It comes with an electric Sunroof (tilt/slide front glass) with fixed rear glass pano (including power blinds).

Heated seats are available in the front, middle and, for the first time in the SUV sector, the third row.
All-new disco is equipped with up to nine USB ports, four 12-volt charging points and an in-car 3G WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices.
