Inside's Rwanda's most exclusive lodge and what it would cost you to spend a night here

Located in the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone, Bisate Lodge is one of the most exclusive lodges in Rwanda.

Officially opened on 1 September 2017 by President Paul Kagame the lodge has within a short span manage to win hearts and pockets of Africa’s richest personalities and ordinary mortals alike.

Sourced from Kinyarwanda vocabulary, bisate means ‘pieces’ and describes how the cone was once whole but has worn away by natural erosion.

Each villa has a bedroom, reception area and bathroom with a central fireplace and a private deck, peeking out of the lush vegetation on the tangled mountainside, overlooking this rare and special Albertine Rift landscape.

The area has dramatic views of the peaks of the volcanoes Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno rearing up through the Afro-alpine forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park.

Residents also have exclusive access to vast tracts of Africa’s best wildlife areas, in a unique sense of seclusion, comfort, privacy and space while lending a hand in the conservation of these areas in the process.

Sending a night here does not come cheap.

The cost is US$ 1,155 – US$ 1,470 (Ksh 119,375) per person per night and they require a minimum stay of 3 nights.

The rates come inclusive of all meals, all local drinks (excludes premium imported brands and champagne).

There are numerous lodge activities to indulge while a resident here ranging from guided nature / birding walks in forest on property, guided walk and vegetable picking at organic fields, guided walk to pyrethrum fields, self-guided running trail.

Rwanda coffee and tea cupping/tasting and lodge complimentary in-room welcome massage is never to be missed as well.

While developing the lodge, over 15 000 indigenous trees were planted and the lodge is keen to increase this number even more, it offers guided nursery visit and indigenous tree planting,
