This country's hotels 'have old beds with linen that often smells of cigarette smoke'
The governor called on the country's top hotels and safaris to urgently improve its falling standards which would go a long way in supporting other industries as well.
Speaking in Harare while announcing a $15m tourism development facility put together by Reserve Bank of Zimababwe, Mr. Mangudya lamented the hospitality industry standards had fallen significantly and were negatively impacting the country’s tourism sector.
"You need to improve your hotels and safaris. I won’t say which hotels, but the beds are old, the sheets are old; I think they have not been changed because they are smelling too much cigarettes," Mangudya was quoted by New Zimbabwe as saying.

“What therefore happens is that if you change the old beds and sheets, you will go and buy new ones, meaning increased productions in the country
It means those that make beds and sheet manufactures will have to increase their productions as they will be in the business” he added.
And it seems it is not only ‘old lines that smell of too much cigarettes’ prices too are keeping tourists away.
In 2016, President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was at the time a vice president said that the "exorbitant amounts were scaring away tourists".
However despite negative publicity, Zimbabwe is one of World’s top tourist destinations with Victoria Falls being the main attraction.

Reports in 2016 said that the country’s tourism sector brought in at least $890m after receiving 2.1 million visitors.
