Ismael Raage, a disabled student has proofed that disability is not inability and impedes no one especially when it comes to matters of education.

The disable students beat all odds to graduate with a Bachelor Degree of Banking and Finance from Somalia’s premier private university, Simad University and crawled on all fours to receive his conveted degree.

Mr. Raage who is a beneficiary of scholarship programme and upon his graduation was employed by the University, becoming the first student of his program and get employed.

He was however not the only student who was disabled who graduated, Simad''s graduation list was full of survivors who had overcome insurmountable odds.

Several other students some walking in three or four were also conferred with degrees having successfully  completed programs in Math and physics, Statistics, Business Administration, Accounting, Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Economics and Law etc.

Among the graduands was Abdirashid Ibrahim who had his leg amputated due to an Improvised Explosive Device(IED) explosion during a semester break.

He was bedridden for nine months but persevered through it all and rejoined university to continue with his education and on January 25th he was finally conferred with his degree.

690 students graduated from the premier private university during its 13th convocation for the class of 2017 on Tuesday at the Universities main campus.

SIMAD University is registered as a private, non-profit higher education institution under the Ministry of Higher Education and Culture(Somalia).

It was established in 1999, as an institute of higher learning to foster academic excellence by a group of intellectuals and former university lecturers.

After 11 years of consistent success and achievements, the Board of Trustees upgraded the institute into a full-fledged university on January 20, 2011.

The  Not-for-profit education institute currently has 3,796 students.
