Kenyan student collapses and dies of heat wave

Musyoka could become the first Kenyan to die of the heat wave sweeping across the country.

According to the Daily Nation newspaper, Dennis Musyoka was singing in a choir in Kitui County when he suddenly collapsed and died.

Musyoka, a second-year student at the Kitui campus of Kenyatta University, could become the first Kenyan to die of the heat wave, according to a pathologist.

Kenya is heating up year on year, and all projections indicate that things are about to get worse.

The country has recently witnessed temperatures hit new highs this year, reigniting debate on the effects of global warming.

The level of humidity in the capital has also risen significantly in the last few days, hitting a high of 45 per cent on Wednesday.

While the Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert over the next few days, the rains will do little to arrest the damaging impact of a warming planet.

Scientists believe the danger is worse than previously imagined, and that human activities on the planet could have altered it forever.

The weatherman has however stated that focus should shift to nationwide environmental conservation efforts to mitigate the extreme weather conditions.
