Kenya's low cost airline launches flights to far flung Wajir hoping to open up the county to the world
Wajir Airport is located about 5km East of Wajir town and opens daily operations at 0630 hours and closes at 1830 hours.
Kenya’s budget carrier, Jambojet has added Wajir town to its growing destinations, hoping to open up the county to the world.
“We are confident that our product will appeal greatly to government, business and leisure travellers alike,” said Jambojet chief executive Willem Hondius.
Wajir (Wajeer) is situated in the former North Eastern Province and is the capital of the Wajir County.

The first flight on the route is expected to take off from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on February 14 to Wajir airstrip.
Wajir Airport is located about 5km East of Wajir town and opens daily operations at 0630 hours and closes at 1830 hours is open to all types of aircraft i.e propeller & jet engine.
The low-cost airline is targeting domestic travellers comprising traders, investors, government workers and employees of local and international aid agencies in the region.
Traveling to Wajir by road is not only hectic but can also get unsafe due to Al Shabaab security threat.
Travellers have to endure heat and bumpy roads for as long as ten hours before reaching Wajir town.

However, despite its arid climate, Wajir County holds huge untapped potential in Tourism and Agriculture.
Jambojet flies daily from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Eldoret, Kisumu, Malindi, Mombasa and Diani (Ukunda).
Earlier in the month, the budget airline increased frequencies across all its routes in the country in an effort to offer additional flight choices to its customers.
Mr Hondius said the fleet expansion drive has enabled the airline to expand its scheduled operations and grow the number of destinations adding the airline is expecting an additional aircraft in mid-February this year.
