Being one of the most powerful economies in East and Central Africa, Kenya has produced rich and powerful businessmen and women who have exploited the country’s resources and friendly market.

Among the wealthiest Kenyans are politicians who apart from serving Kenyans almost literally swim in money and have no qualms splashing money to show off their expensive taste.

Here are 5 richest governors in Kenya.

The governor of Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi, is one of the richest governors in Kenya.

Dr. Kidero who has a pharmacy background from the University of Nairobi has had a successful career, having held several high end positions in international companies before throwing his hat in the political ring.

Having worked in several multi-billion shilling companies like Mumias Sugar Company, the Nation Media Group among others, his wealth has been acquired from a diverse range of sources.

On top of this, he is an investor in several investment companies.

After a day's work, he retires to his mansion located in Muthaiga,Nairobi, estimated to be worth $3.2 million and is said to even own choppers through companies.

The governor’s wealth is estimated at between Ksh10 billion-Ksh20 billion ($96 million - $192 million).

The Kiambu governor is one of Kenya’s richest but equally most controversial politicians.

The Punjab University graduate, who is a father of two, owns two choppers, a palatial home in Mombasa as well as another home in Nairobi.

Ever young at heart, the governor lives life on the fast lane and owns a large number of state of the art machines ranging from armored cars, top of the range white Jaguar XKR and motorbikes, which he has used at Kiambu TT races.

Before joining politics he worked as Managing Director, Tototo Home Industries where he invested heavily in real estate.

The source of his vast wealth has however always been the subject of hot debates but the governor recently moved to clear the air.

“I work, I’m a business man, I build houses and sell. I have done that for many years, I am an International businessman.” He said during a live interview with a local media house.

He clarified that he deals in houses, importation of commodities and also clearing and forwarding.

His net worth is unknown but he is believed to be worth billions of shillings.

Mombasa governor, Hassan Joho for sure knows how to live life to the fullest.

He comes from a wealthy family and over the years has emerged as a savvy businessman with vast business interests in different sectors ranging from trade to tech.

He is the founder and pioneer of Prima Pest and Bins Limited, the first garbage collection company in Mombasa.

He is also the founder of M-Tech Kenya Limited and East African Terminals Limited, commanding respect within the shipping and logistics industry.

He allegedly lives in an $3.9 mansion in Nyali and owns a fleet of expensive fuel guzzlers including a customized Porsche Cayenne and a Bentley Bentayga diesel worth about Sh21 million ($202,124).

The Sultan of Mombasa as he likes to refer to himself has come out severally to refute claims that he is allegedly engaged in illegal activity.

Before becoming governor, he was Member of Parliament for Kisauni Constituency.

Apart from serving as Chepalungu Member of Parliament from 1997 – 2013, Ruto has also served as a minister in several capacities in various government dockets.

He is also a savvy politician and operates several petrol stations in South Rift as well as a construction company.

He also reportedly owns a Eurocopter AS350 chopper worth $3 million.

Machakos governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua's rise to the top has not been a walk in the park.

Coming from humble beginnings, the governor had to work odd jobs from a young age to raise money to fill financial gaps where necessary and was schooled through mercy of good Samaritans and missionaries.

After his doctorate in Australia, he served as foreign correspondent for a number of international media houses and later served as an Assistant Professor in the College of Communication and Media Sciences, Zayed University in Dubai.

He also has interests in the filming industry and he is also a budding author and has written a book titled "" which was well received.
