Kenya Railways suspends advance ticket booking

Through a notice pinned at Nairobi Terminus, Kenya Railways announced the move which is set to scuttle travel plans of many commuters.

Kenya Railways has temporarily suspended all advance ticket sales for express and inter-county passenger train services beginning 1st January 2018.

Through a notice pinned at Nairobi Terminus, Kenya Railways announced the move which is set to scuttle travel plans of many commuters who had hoped to head to the Kenyan Coast once Christmas and End Year festivities had died down.

Kenya Railways did not provide reason for the advance booking cancelation.

Until the suspension of advance bookings, passengers were allowed to book tickets up to 13 days in advance so long as they paid full price.

Similarly unlike the past where they had to go physically to buy tickets at the train stations, one could easily book a ticket online through an SMS based booking process and make payments via MPESA by simply dialing a given USSD code.

Since its launch on 31st May, Kenya Railways has experienced a tonne of teething problems ranging from overbooking, middlemen fiascoes to ticketing challenges on its now popular Madaraka Express.
