Meet the woman behind Polycarp Igathe's success

Polycarp Igathe who until recently was the Managing Director of Vivo energy is by no means a successful man.

His business acumen combined with his soft spoken attitude convinced state house enough that he was indeed the right man for the job, the man who would guide, Nairobi governor, Hopeful, Mike Gideon Sonko to restore Nairobi’s lost glory.

But how much is known about Polycarp Igathe wife? The woman who has stood by him all these years, the woman who has clothed him, feed him and pampered him to take on the world.

More importantly the woman who Mr. Igathe will depend on for energy as he takes the monumental task of guiding Nairobi city out of the quagmire it is now back to the status it used to belong, The city in the Sun.

Catherine Igathe is married to Polycarp Igathe and together they have three kids, two girls and one boy, the oldest is 14 and the youngest is four.

Catherine is Currently General Manager – Distribution Kenya and Agency Channel Lead for Africa at AIG.

She has over 20 years’ experience in the insurance industry, 12 of which have been in Senior Management roles.

“Catherine brings expertise in Sales and Marketing which she has successfully championed throughout her working career. She also brings her experience in Organizational Change Management learnt from global best practices.” Gen Africa asserts managers describes her in their website.

She is an alumni of United States International University – Africa where she pursued International Business Administration.

She is also a Graduate of the Advanced Management Programme from Strathmore Business School and IESE Business School, Spain.

So how does Polycarp Igathe describe his wife?

“She remains the love of my life. I introduce her as “my life” and so making sure that I spend time with her is paramount, which means no late evening meetings. I say no to those. The word ‘no’ is my friend.”

How does he show his appreciation and love for her?

“I bought her a brand new car, and taken her along to dream trips and hey, I have given her three fantastic babies! Come on. I think giving her babies is the most fantastic thing I have done for her.”

Finally Polycarp reveals that indeed his biggest fear is to fail his wife and their kids.

“Look, I’m very clear on the roles I have served in as a CEO. When I read my letter, it says I have been appointed to the role, so it’s a role I’m playing. The reality is that I’m a father who must provide and care and protect and nurture, and I’m a husband who swore in public to love and hold till death does us part. I will not fail in that.”
