The 3rd Eastern Africa Music Summit is back, bigger and better

The summit aims to trigger collaborative development of the Eastern Africa Music Industry, via trade exhibition, panel discussions and performance showcases.

The third annual Edition of ONGEA! Officially kicked off on Thursday 15th and will run until Sunday 18th (12pm-10pm) with the entry being totally free.

“We are very excited that ONGEA! continues to attract regional & international Delegates, Businesses and Musicians every year”, said Founding Director – Mike Strano.

Held annually in February, ONGEA!, is an event which seeks to develop the Music Industry in Africa by bringing together all music stakeholders (i.e. Musicians, Producers, Promoters, Distributors, Media, Consumers, Government & NGOs) to interact and produce solutions to numerous challenges afflicting the music industry.

“Our dream of the beautiful multicultural City of Nairobi, once again becoming the Hub of the Music Industry in Eastern Africa and an important Creative Hub for Africa, as it was in the 1970s – when Benga gave birth to Lingala, is beginning to become a Reality.”

57 Exhibition Stands featuring delegates from America, Djibouti, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Zambia will be showcased at ONGEA! 2018.

Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC), the Kenya Copyright Board (KECOBO), the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) and the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) are some of the government entities present at the four day event.

Some of the big names in attendance who will rock the crowd at this year’s ONGEA summit  includes AFRIMA 2017 Winner: Gilad, and the new Boy currently running Nairobi -

For the first-ever, Ma Case Productions, a Record Label and Tour Booking, Management exhibitor from France will be featured courtesy of ONGEA!

Locally, Decimal Records, Ketebul Music, Flag 42 and MOB Entertainment are just some of the labels present.

The culmination of the event will be on Saturday where Artists will get a chance to win awards during Mdundo Awards 2018.

"Mdundo award is perhaps the most honest award show since it is purely based on consumption because we have statistics on who gets the most downloads and who gets listened to the most"   Martin Nielsen, CEO at Mdundo Limited told Business Insider SSA at a past interview.
