(VIDEO) Two extremely rare white giraffes sighted in Kenya
The duo, a mother, and child were spotted in Garissa County by locals who quickly tipped off conservationists to come witnessed the rare sight.
Kenya has vast areas of its territory teeming with various rare species of flora and flora only found in Kenya.
Kenya, for instance, has all the big five, Lion, Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard and Rhino all which are found in the countries national game reserves and parks.
However, Kenya seems to have outdone itself again.
For the first time in history, a pair of rare white giraffes were captured on video in Kenya.
The duo, a mother, and child were spotted in Garissa County by locals who quickly tipped off conservationists to come and witness the rare sight.
“They were so close and extremely calm and seemed not disturbed by our presence. The mother kept pacing back and forth a few yards in front of us while signalling the baby giraffe to hide behind the bushes.” HCP wrote in a blog post.
The ghostly white giraffes are found in the Ishaqbini Hirola Conservancy, Garissa County in Northern Kenya.
The area is managed by the Hirola conservation Programme (HCP), an NGO dedicated to preserving the critically endangered hirola antelope, one of the rarest in the world.
Unlike what many people had wrongly assumed the reticulated giraffes don’t suffer from albinism but have a genetic condition called leucism.

While an albino animal will be pure white, one with leucism will still display the stripes, spots, or other kinds of patterning.
According to the HCP, this most recent footage is only the third known sighting of a white giraffe.
A white giraffe in the same Ishaqbini conservancy was reported in March 2016, while in Tanzania, a masai giraffe calf called Omo was sighted in Tarangire national park in January 2016.
