How Kenya’s re-run has turned into a cacophony of insults
Contrarily to how sober discussions were before the August 8th general elections were held, Kenyan politicians are now dragging their opponent’s names in the mud without a second thought.
With less than 25 days to the repeat of the presidential elections scheduled for October 26, Kenyan politicians are tearing into each other and dragging their opponent’s names in the mud without a second thought.
So common has hurling of insults become that nowadays newscast is never complete without politicians dropping bombshells and using colourful vocabularies to describe each other.
This is however contrarily to how sober discussions were before the August 8th general elections were held, the incumbent Jubilee administration went all out and vigorously campaigned on a platform of development while the opposition stuck to their cards of reforms and raising issues like corruption, public dent to even proposing ways to bring down cost of living and offering single mothers with a self-support fund.
All that however went down the drain after the historic Supreme Court ruling which nullified President Kenyatta win after finding out the electoral body did not adhere to the constitution while transmitting the results.
The first sign of trouble began after President Uhuru Kenyatta while announcing that he had accepted the Court’s ruling even though he did not agree with it.

A few hours later, however, he suddenly changed tune and launched a vicious attack against the Supreme Court judges accusing them of orchestrating a judicial coup and labeling them with all names.
Uhuru referred to the Supreme Judges as 'wakora' (Thugs) after they overturned his win and vowed to fix them once he got re-elected.
Since then politicians from each side have been trading barbs at each other with abandon.
Just last week, Embakasi member of Parliament, Babu Owino was in custody after calling the President Son of a Bi*ch, a week before that Gatundu MP Moses Kuria and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama were also in custody for allegedly uttering hate speech remarks.
Opposition leader, Raila Odinga who has been the butt of many jokes and derogatory remarks seems to have also had it and has started firing a few barbs on his fierce political nemesis, Uhuru Kenyatta.
Over the weekend, NASA leader Raila Odinga fired some sensational and direct insults to President Uhuru Kenyatta while addressing a political rally in Busia.
Mr. Odinga accused the president of drinking too much Alcohol and smoking Bhang, remarks he has previously made without mentioning Kenyatta’s name which suggests that the Kenyan political space is set to get even more dirty, heated and bare-knuckled in the coming days.
