Kenya's first lady melts hearts after she assist an elderly woman in shelling maize
Mrs. Kenyatta a fierce champion for women rights and has never shied away in advocating for women’s agenda.
While on a tour at West Pokot County where she had gone to launch Linda Mama, Boresha Mama Programme among other initiatives under the Office of the First Lady, she showed her humble side.
West Pokot Governor, John lonyangapuo received her and after exchanging formalities including signing the visitor’s book, took her around the vast County rich in resources but still lagging behind in terms of basic amenities such as hospitals and roads.
The first lady was accompanied by her daughter, Ngina Kenyatta.
While there, the first lady decided to drop by the homestead of one elderly woman, Mrs. Machario at Katumok Village in Mnagei Ward, Kapenguria ahead of her meeting with mothers and women leaders at Kishaunet, ASK Showground, in Kapenguria Town.
It is here that Mrs. Kenyatta melted the hearts of Kenyans and shocked residents of west Pokot after she assisted her with house chores.
The first lady disregarded all state privileges and humbly sat down with Mrs. Machario at her homestead to shell maize for her household.
Seeing the exemplary servant leadership, her daughter, Ngina also rolled up her sleeves and joined them in grinning maize.
And to show her gratitude, Mrs. Machario presented the first lady with a calabash and a cork among other presents.
Mrs. Kenyatta a fierce champion for women rights and has never shied away in advocating for women’s agenda and even participated in the London Marathon 2014, becoming the first lady in the world to finish the 42KM race.
She has delivered powerful speeches about women empowerment and launched many initiatives in the past to agitate for the same, the most notable being the First Lady Half Marathon which seeks to distribute mobile clinic in every county.
She is a darling of many Kenyans and her popularity ratings are high across the country.
