At least 20 nursery pupils have been rushed to a Kisumu hospital after they were teargassed and sprayed with water cannons.
Police teargas nursery school pupils in Kenya during anti-IEBC demos
The minors were teargassed and sprayed with water cannons.
The minors from Mount Carmel Academy in Nyalenda were caught up in the National Super Alliance (NASA) demos with anti-riot police firing teargas in their classrooms.
Ms Pauline Ogosa, a teacher at the school, says the pupils, some below two years were attacked as they rested.
"The children cried uncontrollably while others looked almost unconscious due to the effect of the gas and the water," Ms Ogosa said.
She stated that the incident happened while the police battled youth outside the institution in the ongoing protests to have the electoral commission reformed ahead of the Oct 26 repeat polls.
The minors received First Aid from Red Cross workers before being rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga hospital.
The incident comes barely two weeks after pupils of St Peter's Awich Kodingo ECDE, also in Nyalenda, were tear-gassed by police.
