SCARAMUCCI: Steve Bannon has white nationalist 'tendencies'

During an interview with the panel of ABC's "The View" on Friday, Anthony Scaramucci said Steve Bannon had white nationalist "tendencies."

The former Trump administration official Anthony Scaramucci on Friday said Steve Bannon, the recently departed White House chief strategist, had white nationalist "tendencies."

Scaramucci, who was ousted as the White House communications director in July after serving in the role for less than two weeks, further said Bannon's worst quality was that he had a messianic complex, or the belief one is destined to be a savior.

"He got very mad at me for going to Davos, Switzerland, to speak at the World Economic Forum, which was sanctioned by the communications team," Scaramucci said during an appearance on ABC's "The View."

"But because he's an anti-globalist and he was hitting that economic forum at Breitbart for many years, that put me at disfavor with him," he said of the far-right website Breitbart News.

Scaramucci added: "People have messianic complexes, they think they're the answer, they think they're the solution. And what we know about our country and we know about our government, thank God, it's set up a system of checks and balances where it has to be a collaboration."

Scaramucci said Bannon's best qualities were his speechwriting and linguistic capabilities. But when asked whether Bannon was a white nationalist, Scaramucci said "he has those tendencies."

"If you read Breitbart, there's a lot of that white nationalist economic fervor," he said. "And so, to me, my whole thing is doesn't matter, we're a rainbow, let's grow the pie, let's share the pie together" but make sure everyone can work.

Some critics quickly seized on Scaramucci's comments as hypocritical.

A Breitbart reporter tweeted out a screenshot soon after Scaramucci's remarks that showed a quite different sentiment the New York businessman shared with the publication when he provided it with his first interview after being hired as communications director.

Perhaps the most eye-popping incident of his short tenure as communications director occurred when he blasted Bannon and the White House chief of staff at the time, Reince Priebus, to a reporter from The New Yorker.

During that tirade, Scaramucci said that unlike Bannon, who is now back at the helm of Breitbart, he was not interested in media attention.

"I'm not Steve Bannon, I'm not trying to suck my own c---," Scaramucci said. "I'm not trying to build my own brand off the f------ strength of the president. I'm here to serve the country."
