Kenya's opposition leader is not afraid copping a treason arrest
He was speaking during an interview with an international news agency.
In an interview with Voice of America (VOA), Mr. Odinga stated that sovereignty lies with Kenyans and will stand to prevail once he's inaugurated next week.
"I told Prof Muigai to go and tell that to the birds! Sovereignty is vested in the people, and can be exercised directly or through elected representatives. Kenyans have taken back their sovereignty because we have a situation of an illegal government," he said when asked to comment on treason charges.
Githu Muigai had last month warned the opposition leader against being sworn-in stating that the act itself is illegal and amounts to treason.
Exile government
Mr. Odinga has threatened to form a government in exile despite an appeal by European Union to the NASA leader to uphold the rule of law.
"We can even be a government in exile, one that works from outside. It has happened in other countries. What we are saying is that Kenyans can no longer allow an illegitimate government not elected by the people to rule them. We will work like a government, we will form a Cabinet and we will work as a government,"he said.
The opposition chief revealed his plans to be sworn-in based on his claims that he won the first election held on August 8, 2017.
"We do not recognise the October 26 presidential poll. And that is why we are going to the August 8 election and we will provide evidence soon that we won. It is our basis for taking the oath on January 30," the former orime minister stated.
