Two killed in Nairobi as police disperse opposition supporters

Raila Odinga jetted back to the country today after a 10 day tour from the United States where he held a series of high level meetings and talks with various leaders on reforming Kenya’s democratic processes.
Thousands of his supporters turned up to accompany him from the airport to Uhuru Park where he was scheduled to address his upporters.
Live footage showed the Kenyan police firing tear gas at the convoy and used water cannon as they tried to stop it reaching the capital’s main business district.

The deaths occurred as police and protesters fought on one of the main roads leading to the business district, according to a Reuters photographer.
The number of deaths could however be more since by the time of going to press National Resistance Movement supporters were still engaging with the police.
AFP reported three deaths.
Kenyan Police is yet to issue a statement about the deaths as the spokesmen did not immediately respond to phone calls.

Odinga was in the white Range Rover when the windscreen was hit in circumstances that are not yet clear.
Vehicle owners plying Mombasa Road suffered the wrath of the supporters who clashed with police officers along the busy road.
