Clippers reportedly trade Blake Griffin to Pistons in blockbuster deal

Blake Griffin is reportedly heading to Detroit after signing a five-year deal to stay with the Clippers back in July.

The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly agreed to trade superstar forward Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons.
The trade comes just months after Griffin signed a $171 million, five-year extension with the Clippers — a deal that notably did not include a no-trade clause.
Los Angeles is also reportedly looking to deal stars Lou Williams and DeAndre Jordan before the deadline.

The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly sending face-of-the-franchise forward Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons.

The news comes from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, who added that the Pistons are sending Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, and Boban Marjanovic to Los Angeles as a part of the deal, as well as a first- and a second-round draft pick. In addition to Griffin, the Clippers will also reportedly be sending Brice Johnson and Willie Reed to Detroit.

The blockbuster deal comes less than a year after Blake Griffin signed a five-year, $171 million extension with the Clippers, and told his Los Angeles teammates and coaches "I want my legacy to be a Clipper." Griffin did not have a no-trade clause as a part of his deal.

Griffin was the first overall draft pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and has played with the Clippers his entire career. Through 33 games this season, he's averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists with the Clippers, but the team sits in just ninth place in the West, still adjusting to the departure of All-Star guard Chris Paul.

The trade serves as a mid-season reset for both teams, but it sounds like the Clippers aren't yet done dealing — Wojnarowski also reports that Los Angeles will continue to "pursue packages of young players and picks" as they look to deal DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams before the deadline.
