Tom Brady and Alex Smith have been the most dominant quarterbacks this season and it's not even close

There is Tom Brady and Alex Smith and there is everybody else.

Through nine weeks this year, 40-year-old Tom Brady and 12-year veteran Alex Smith have been the most dominant quarterbacks in the NFL, and it is not even close.

To see just how dominant Brady and Smith have been this season, take a look at the chart below. The chart shows two of the most important stats for a quarterback: 1) The number of yards their teams gain every time they throw the ball (Y-axis, using adjusted yards per attempt); and 2) The difference between the number of touchdowns they throw and the number of interceptions (X-axis, using touchdown-to-interception ratio). In the chart, dominance increases from the bottom-left to the upper-right.

While most quarterbacks are clustered together in the same area, Brady and Smith are off to the side by themselves (min. 4 starts).
