President Kenyatta faces online backlash over plans to build Ksh 700M tennis facility

Speaking on Wednesday evening after holding talks with officials from the Ministry of Sports, International Tennis Federation, African Tennis Confederation and Tennis Kenya, Mr Kenyatta said the government has started an initiative to make tennis a public sport available for Kenyans from all walks of life.
He noted that the training centre will make Nairobi a hub for tennis in Eastern and Southern Africa besides being a source of huge revenue from sports tourism when it hosts tennis features.
The news was, however, not warmly received by a section of Kenyans who criticized the President misplacing his priorities.

Corruption
They asked the head-of-state to instead deal with urgent issues affecting the country such as corruption, the ongoing lecturers strike and youth unemployment.
Mr President prioritise what's important, what Kenyans need is food, proper affordable houses, and jobs to youths, tennis for heaven's sake!!!

Some netizens also sought to question the President why his government was yet to construct the five world-class stadia which was part of his 2013 election manifesto.
how now Mr president?...you promised 5 stadia....you have delivered zero....Kenya has no single stadium that meets FIFA standards....next month Gor mahia plays in CAF competition.... do you expect the game to be held in Rwanda and TZ??..

Earlier in February, Mr Kenyatta urged the Ministries of Sports, Education and Interior to speed up the development of a curriculum that will see golf introduced in public schools.
The head of state said he wants the sport integrated as part of the competitive games played as extra-curricular activities.
