Apple follows on the footsteps of Tesla motors and even Google in seeing the motoring industry as the next great invention.

"I'm hoping Apple does the same thing with autonomous cars that [they did with the iPhone],” Steve  Wozniak co-founder of Apple said on entering the self-driving car market.

"I hope it's so much better than the others and not just another player." He added.

According to Business Insider Intelligence prediction there will be 10 million self-driving cars on the road in three years. In 10 years, about a quarter of miles driven in the United States could be in self-driving electric cars, according to Boston Consulting Group.

This trend has however splits car enthusiasts in the middle, there are those who claim self-driving cars will kill the joy and adventure that comes with driving cars and there are those who say self-driving cars will not only make driving cars safer but also revolutionize the market.

I recently spoke with a former rally driver who first fell in love with Karl Friedrich Benz’s invention at the age of nine.

Sanjiv Shah who is RMA, Kenya CEO is a confessed car addict and petrolhead shared his two cent opinion on the matter.

He cleverly compares the joy of shifting gears and turning the steering wheel to listening to a lively band rather than listening to music through a synth.

“Do you like music? I like music but I love listening to a drummer a trumpet, a guitarist, a saxonist and so on and so forth or you can have a synthesizer, so to me that is the difference between a self-driving car and a proper car. When you get into a car and you drive it you play music and you have fun or you get a synthesizer and you play it as a background music, who wants a self-driving car when you can drive one?”  Sanjiv possess.

And he is not wrong, the entry of automatic cars killed the true spirit of driving, nowadays it is not strange to find people who claim to be professional drivers squirm at the sight of a manual car,  despite their ‘experience’ they cannot shift the first gear in a manual cars, what a shame.

Personally do you prefer an automatic car or a manual car?
