Facebook-owned Whatsapp has added some new features for group chats to its platform, including more controls for administrators as well as regular group members.

The messaging app says the new features will be available on Android and iOS smartphones even though some of them were rolled out via the beta versions of the app earlier.

Here are the four features and what they will allow you to do:

Keep up with a conversation

You can now catch up on a conversation in which your name was mentioned but you haven't been following for a while.

A new "@" button on the bottom right corner of the group chat will let users see when they have been mentioned.

You can also quickly search for participant members of a group by tapping on the search icon on the group's info section.

Admin controls

Group creators can no longer be removed from the group they started. Likewise, group admins have the power to restrict who can change the group’s subject, icon, and description.

You can leave a group chat permanently

WhatsApp now allows you to leave a group chat for good without being constantly invited back into a conversation.

This feature will come as a huge relief to those who don’t want to be a part of certain groups but had no way of getting rid of them.

Group description

With this feature, group members can add a short description of their group which shows up at the top of the chat when a new person joins the group.
