Professional Career
Oparanya has 23 years’ experience in local and international Finance Management, Audit and Business Consultancy. He was the Minister of State for Planning, National Development and Vision 2030 in government of President Mwai Kibaki.
Political career
He is a member of ODM an affiliate party of NASA. He was elected the first Governor of County Government of Kakamega during the elections of 4 March 2013.
In August, he will be defending his seat after was handed direct nomination by ODM. However, he will be in the race with Mabel Muruli (Jubilee), Michael Osundwa (ANC) Suleiman Sumba (KANU) and Boni Khalwale (Ford Kenya).
Controversies
He has in many occasions been questioned over the misuse of public funds and failing to honor the summons by the Senate to respond to the accuaations. He was, however, cleared by Kakamega County Assembly for lack of evidence.
