Embakasi East MP Babu Owino was on Wednesday evening dramatically arrested by flying squad officers at Milimani Law Courts minutes after he was released on bond.
Mr. Owino who appeared before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi was facing subversion charges following his abusive remarks toward President Uhuru Kenyatta, charges he denied and released on bond.
However, as the celebrations of his release was just starting outside the Law Courts, officers appeared from nowhere and apprehended the newly elected MP.
Babu’s arrest caused a scuffle between the police and his supporters with the latter demanding his release.
His whereabouts were unknown but later it was established that he was taken to Pangani Police Station where he spent the night.
Nonetheless, what boggled the minds of many was the reason behind his arrest.
On Thursday, the former SONU leader was accused of attacking a voter identified as Joshua Otiende during the just concluded General Election.
Appearing at the Kibera Law Courts Babu was accused of badly injuring Otiendo.
"On 8 day of August 2017 at Soweto Social Hall Kayole Sub County within Nairobi County in the Republic of Kenya jointly with others not before Court unlawfully did grievous harm to Joshua Otieno Otiende," the charge sheet read.
