IEBC commissioners and top management met on Monday where they agreed to change the October 17 polls date that had earlier been announced.
The commissioners were prompted by a technical report from French firm OT Morpho on the time lines needed to reconfigure the 45,000 kits for the fresh election.
The technology services firm indicated that it would need more time to reset the electoral machines in preparation for the repeat presidential election.

The Star on Tuesday reported that the IEBC commissioners settled on October 26 as the tentative date that will be subject to further discussions between the commission and the representatives of the two interested political coalitions – Jubilee and NASA.
"Not conclusively decided but highly likely," a senior official at the IEBC said of the new proposed date.
The commission will on Wednesday hold talks with representatives from Odinga and Kenyatta’s respective campaign teams, with a view of coming an amicable election path.
If confirmed, the October 26 date will have double significance to the sitting President who will not only be facing voters, but will also be celebrating his 56 birthday.
Kenyatta was born on October 26 in 1961 at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
