ODM governor makes U-turn on Uhuru

The governor once differed with Uhuru in a public event

Mr Nanok, who is an ardent supporter of NASA leader Raila Odinga, has said that his new county government will be ready to work with Uhuru’s team.

In the just concluded elections, Nanok (ODM) garnered 73,232 votes against his main rival John Munyes of Jubilee who got 52,572 votes.

"Turkana County Government will work with the government that is legitimately elected," Nanok said.

Speaking at Turkana University College, the chairman of the Council of Governors has also applauded the Wafula Chebukati led commission IEBC for what he has termed a delivery of a ”free and fair elections, despite the challenges”, which his party leader Raila Odinga is disputing.

"Upon observing how the commission conducted the elections here in Turkana, I can confidently say that I am satisfied the commission did a good job and followed the law in its undertakings," Nanok told.

He added: "We fought a tough battle with my competitors in a quest to provide the right leadership to take our county forward.”

Uhuru-Nanok standoff

Josphat Nanok earlier this year hit headlines when he told off President Uhuru Kenyatta over the precedes from the oil deposits in Turkana county.

Nanok faulted Kenyatta over what he termed as inequality in the distribution of resources in the county of Turkana, yet the national government was interested in the gains made from the oil mining in the region.

“Katiba inasema gawa mzuri. Tunataka watu waTurkana wapate 10 per cent ya faida ya mafuta,” Nanok said.

Loosely translated: “The constitution says that share equitably, we want the people of Turkanas to have at least 10 per cent of the precedes of oil.”
