NASA Announces Next Move After Matiangi’s Bans Anti-IEBC Demos

Just In

The Opposition lawyer Otiende Amollo announced that the demos will go on as scheduled.

“Demonstrations will continue peacefully. Matiangi's directive unlawful. Responsibility to protect is on police, not organizer,” Amollo said.

The senior Counsel noted:"Matiang'i is not the law and therefore cannot restrict demonstrations".

Also, NASA CEO Norman Magaya criticised Matiangi’s order noting that the constitution allows demos.

“Once police are notified of a demonstration under S.5 of public mgt Act, it is their duty to enforce law & order during demonstration.” He said.

Earlier during a press briefing, Mr Matiangi stated that Magaya would be held responsible for the destruction of property witnessed during the protests.

“On the 6 of October 2017, the police were notified by one Norman Magaya, allegedly the CEO, of the demonstrations that have taken place this week. He will be charged with destruction of property during anti-IEBC demos,” Matiang’i remarked.

NASA has called on its supporters to demos every day of the week until reforms are implemented at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
