Uhuru's unexpected announcement on NASA demonstrators

President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a surprise announcement regarding NASA demonstrators.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday said that police have been cracking down on rioters and not peaceful protesters during the NASA anti-IEBC demos.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Kenyatta stated that they would not allow robbing and destruction of property under the disguise of peaceful demonstrations.

"There is a difference between a peaceful demonstrator and a rioter who steals, robs and destroys property. The police have not cracked down on protesters but on rioters," the Head of State said.

He added,"We, however, will not allow riots, death under the guise of peaceful demos."

The Head of State also noted that it was unfortunate that NASA leader Raila Odinga would not participate in the repeat poll after winning the supreme court case.

He urged IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to do what is required of him as per the constitution ahead of the repeat poll.

Police have been on the spot after 5 people were killed and others shot during the NASA anti-IEBC countrywide demos.

Meanwhile, Odinga has announced that there will be country wide demos on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Former Prime Minister said that he would give direction to NASA supporters on Wednesday, a day to the polls.

On the other hand, the President and his deputy William Ruto have maintained that the election will go on as planned whether the Opposition leader participates or not.
