Raila changes his mind on Thursday election, sends urgent announcement to supporters

Raila has made an about turn and sent an urgent announcement to his supporters.

In an interview published by the BBC on Tuesday, Odinga denied asking his supporters to demonstrate on the day of the election and urged NASA supporters to stay at home on the day of the election.

“We have not told people to demonstrate on the day of the poll, we have not said that at all, we have told them to stay away,” Odinga stated.

The BBC reporter followed up with a clarification asking if the NASA leader wanted his supporters to remain at home on the day of the poll. Odinga responded in the affirmative.

However, the former Prime Minister stated that his supporters had a right to hold peaceful protests to resist what he termed as the militarization of politics by Jubilee leaders.

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi on Wednesday declared October 25 a public holiday to allow Kenyans to participate in Thursday's election.

In a gazette notice to the public, the CS has said that the move is in the interest of allowing people who will participate in the repeat polls reach their polling centres.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday held a meeting with Independent and Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati at Harambee House in Nairobi.

Kenyatta told Chebukati that Jubilee had no demands prior to Thursday's repeat presidential poll.

Kenyatta told Chebukati that he only wanted to see the fresh presidential election held on October 26 as directed by the Supreme Court during their ruling which annulled his August 8 victory.
