Speaking during a press conference CJ Maraga dared those opposing and intimidating the Judiciary to call for a referendum and abolish the arm of Government.
A visibly angry Maraga noted that he will not allow intimidation against the Judiciary to prevail.
He sharply criticized politicians and other individuals who have been attacking judges and magistrates for exercising their mandate.
“If leaders are tired of having a strong and independent Judiciary, hey should call a referendum and abolish it all together. Before that happens the Judiciary will continue to discharge its mandate according to the Constitution,” he said.
The CJ added that the Judiciary will not be pushed to act in the interest of any particular individuals.
“Senior political leaders have also threatened the judiciary promising to cut to size and teach us a lesson. This attacks are demeaning and degrading and meant to intimidate and threaten the Judiciary,” the CJ mentioned.
The Supreme Court boss warned that if anything happens to the judges the political leaders will be held personally responsible.
“In view of this unfortunate development the Judicial Service we will like to state that we unreservedly this mindless act of intimidation and reiterate that if anything happens to the individual judges or family, these individuals will be held personally responsible," he noted.
His remarks come amid demonstration staged by Jubilee supporters across the country opposing the Supreme Court ruling annulling the presidential results, which showed that President Uhuru Kenyatta was the winner.
Mr. Kenyatta and his Jubilee party leaders have been at the forefront castigating CJ Maraga following the ruling.
The Head of State is on record calling the CJ and the other judges ‘wakora’.
