Kenya’s first ever women elected senators

Women Senatorial aspirants have recorded impressive results according to latest IEBC figures.

Kenya’s 2017 elections have by all means made history in more ways than one.

The elections has seen already three women; Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Joyce Laboso (Bomet) and Charity Ngilu (Kitui) all but record impressive wins in their respective counties that will make them the first women governors in the country.

However, this impressive show by women gubernatorial candidates has also been replicated by their senate counterparts.

Currently, there are three women senatorial candidates who have also all but sure recorded unassailable lead over their male competitors that will ensure they make history as the first ever women-elected senators in Kenya.

Kamar - Uasin Gishu

In Uasin Gishu County, Jubilee’s Margaret Kamar has an unassailable lead with 221, 485 votes (67 per cent) over Robert Kemei Kiprotich, an independent who has 84, 596 votes (25 per cent).

As at 7:30 am on Thursday, the IEBC showed that 836 out of 868 polling stations had reported to them in Uasin Gishu County.

Nakuru - Kihika

In Nakuru, Jubilee’s Susan Kihika is poised to become the next senator after garnering 641, 533 votes (89 per cent) against her closest challenger Samwel Ogada of ODM who has 55, 404 votes (7 per cent).

1724 out of 1806 polling stations had so far relayed their results to the IEBC as at 7:30 am on Thursday.

Isiolo - Fatuma

In Isiolo Fatuma Dullo of the FDR party is leading with 13, 949 votes (28 per cent of the votes counted) against Hussein Roba, an Independent who has 12, 931 votes (25 per cent).

As at 7:30 am on Thursday, the IEBC showed that 181 out of 195 polling stations had reported to them in Isiolo County.
