Octopizzo gives bhang to fans and other things that happened at Cassper Nyovest’s event (Photos)

This was Cassper Nyovest’s inaugural performance in the country.

This is because Refiloe Maele Phoolo popularly known as Cassper Nyovest was having his maiden performance in the 254. The lineup was short and sweet with some of Kenya’s most talented acts like Fena Gitu the most sought-after femcee, Hip Hop kings Khaligraph Jones and Octopizzo and new kid Steph Kapela taking to the stage.

The question on many revellers’ minds was whether King Mufasa would bring it like he did during his ‘Fill-Up-The-Dome’ tour where he filled up the Orlando Stadium with 60,000 pax before following it up with a record-breaking 68,000 pax audience at the FNB Arena. Other revellers were curious about whether Octopizzo and Khaligraph deep-seated rivalry will come to a boil at the concert. But all we could do was wait.

And waiting we did because the show started well over 12:00 am and we were getting sober but at least DJ Dii and DJ Protégé managed to bring some life into the angst-y crowd.

And about 12:30 am Chipukeezy took to the stage where he held an impromptu ‘Odi Dance’ competition to hype up the crowd and the winner  would take home 5000 Kenya shillings. A lady from H-Town (Huruma) took the money home after resounding approval from the crowd.

The MCee for the night Shaffie Weru took to stage explaining that his tardiness was as a result of watching the highly-anticipated Real Madrid versus Liverpool game which ended up with the Spanish side taking the crown home.

He introduced Steph Kapella who was welcomed with some sick strumming from the bass guitarist and considering he is new to the game he gave quite a good performance and even invited Barack Jacuzzi on stage.

Miss Fena later took to the stage and did what she does best, performing to a screaming crowd.

Now that Steph and Fena were done many people wondered whether we could see a repeat of the Wizkid and Ali Kiba scenario at the Chris Brown concert where there was a squabble over Ali Kiba performing before Wizkid. Who would take to the stage first? Would their egos clash? Thankfully Khaligraph took to the stage spazzing up the crowd with hits like ‘Omollo’ and ‘Julius Yego’. Apart from a sizzling performance, Khaligraph had a few tricks up his sleeve which included making it rain on the crowd and bringing in a surprise act, Sauti Sol. The group and the rapper performed their ‘Rewind’ song for the first time ever and we were there to witness it.

Next came in Octopizzo who performed a number of songs, songs that didn’t really click with the mainstream crowd and only his die-hard fans could rap to. To spice up his performance Octo pulled out a roll of weed and asked his fans whether he could light it up and of course, guys were like ‘Yes’ because who doesn’t like a good show? He, however, did not light up the blunt but gave it to his fans and one of the recipients rated it as some good kush, an 8 out of 10.

After Octo left the stage the crowd was already on edge and started demanding for Mr Refiloe who later came in dressed in black.

Speaking ahead of his performance Cassper said “I go by the name of Cassper Nyovest and this is my first time out here. The energy is amazing, let’s take it back a little bit.”  before starting off with an oldie but a goldie ‘Rands and Naira’.

I have to admit Cassper lives up to his reputation of being an energetic performer and even if you are not a Cassper fan, you really enjoyed yourself. The moves were amazing, the energy was palpable and the thighs were popping.

He performed hits like ‘Doc Shebeleza’, ‘Ksazobalit’ ,‘Tito Mbowemi’ and the ladies’ favourite ‘Baby Girl’ amongst others. Songs that had people jumping on stage, security trying to pry them off stage and the crowd screaming. He described his inaugural performance in Kenya as one of his best before posing for a crowd pic and exiting the stage.

The party was far from over as DJ exclusive kept the energy up and the party continued till early into the morning.

Overall the concert was really good, Cassper has great energy and Khaligraph Jones remains one of the best performers in the country.
