KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua bans popular TV Show

It's a wrap!

In the show, 13-year-old Cyrus Goodman comes out as gay and confesses to his best friend that he has a huge crush on cool kid Jonah Beck.

The Disney show has in the past been praised by TV buffs for going where many popular coming-of-age shows prefer to steer away from and inclusion. Which is in line with Disney's promise that the show would send out a “powerful message about inclusion and respect for humanity.”

“Television reflects the real-life world and today that includes LGBTQ youth who deserve to see their lives depicted on their favourite shows. Disney has been a leader in LGBTQ inclusion, and there are so many young people who will be excited to see Cyrus' story unfold.”  Said GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.

However not everyone is glad to see Cyrus' story unfold and one of them is Ezekiel Mutua the KFCB boss who banned the show before it even aired in Kenya and promised that “any attempt to introduce gay programming in Kenya will be met with the full force of the law.”

The Film Board boss then went on to add that “content promoting same-sex relationships is against culture, it is retrogressive and illegal in Kenya. Children must be given correct information that family is a union between people of opposite gender”

Following the complaints by the Film boss, Multichoice issued this statement  “Following numerous media reposts regarding the upcoming Andi Mack Disney Series, Multichoice has consulted its channel provider, Disney and would like to confirm that this show was not scheduled to air on any of Disney Channels on DStv or GOtv”

In addition, GOtv added this on their Twitter account

“Disney (Disney Channel/Disney XD/Disney Junior) has always created inclusive stories that reflect acceptance and tolerance and seek to entertain through inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience. Our shows are developed to be relevant to kids and families globally while being extremely respectful of each market’s cultural sensibilities, compliance, rules and regulations.”
