Jalang'o reveals how his landlady saved his life

At exactly 18 minutes past 8 o'clock, Jeff Koinange, Jalas shared his account for the A Story A Day segment.

"You shock me at the amount of Kikuyu you know" Koinange started.

Jalang'o explained that it goes back to 2006-2007. He spoke of a former roommate known as Charles Theuri and why 2007 was a year why he needed to know Kikuyu.

"I used to go to PCEA Mwiki... where the whole [service] was in Kikuyu," Jalang'o said, "It got to a point I had to learn a bit of it. Every single neighbour of mine was Kikuyu."

The popular host explained how things took a turn for the worse during the 2007 post election violence.

"I was the only Luo... I couldn't leave the house because everyone knew I was Luo."

The presenter explained that his landlady and neighbours fed him during this time. He couldn't leave the house during the crisis.

He had to learn Kikuyu during the time.

"Mugiithi [uukite] ma, were the first words I learnt," Jalang'o said.

"Where is the landlady now?" Jeff asked.

"Unfortunately she passed on... one of these [chronic] illnesses," Jalang'o answered.

He went on the explain how he needed to get in touch with Mr Theuri who opened his house to him, helped him show his first play.

"Were it not for the people in Mwiki who took care of me, I would be dead," he insisted.
