From luxurious Escalades to honour guards, Fitness queen’s brother buried with military honours (Photos)

In 2012, the Pentagon released an analysis that showed that the second cause of death in the military is suicide. Away from combat, service members die out of their own hand, making the staggering statistics of 26% of military deaths happen in war, 20% by suicide and 17% in road accidents.

Jane Mukami and Stephen 'Mitu' Githehu

"My heart bleeds with sadness, but I’m more angry than sad. My brother committed suicide a few hours ago…he was 28 years old Ex-US military. I’m angry because ever since we discovered he had potential psychological issues we reached out on numerous occasions to the VA, Cobb County police, The Kenyan Embassy in DC, The US Embassy in Nairobi…everyone we possibly could asking for help. We needed their help because Stephen cut the family off the last 12 months and refused to communicate with us…he lived in total isolation." Jane revealed in a post before expressing that America had failed her brother “So now I ask America, Was him committing suicide drastic enough for you? I no longer have a brother, mom Mary Kingatua and Eddy no longer have a son and all because laws didn’t ‘allow’ us to step in and help.”

Jane’s brother Stephen 'Mitu' Githehu was buried this month at the Georgia National Cemetery. In accordance to Standard honours, his casket was draped in the USA flag, placed in a Cadillac Escalade hearse with American flags on the side and honour guards placed near his casket to provide funeral honours for their fallen comrade.

“Today was a very special day. We had a beautiful send off for my brother, Stephen, and laid him to rest in an amazing and serene place, the Georgia National Cemetery.

As Pastor Kariuki shared when someone dies of cancer or any other disease we understand that the disease is responsible for cutting their lives short. The very same should be said and accepted for mental or psychological disorders...no one in their right mind takes their own lives. It's disease that permeates and drives the action. It is well.” She wrote after she bid goodbye to her little brother.
