Highlights of some of her programmes include:Great Debaters Contest, Africa Leadership dialogues, the famous Sunday Live, Investigative segments, The People’ Show, Fist to Five for Change.Her unmatched prowess in journalism has impacted many in the Kenyan society through interactive shows and pressing for change in society.Beyond the glitz and glamour of TV, Julie is a fashion icon and trend setter in the fashion Industry, the media personality owns an online market store known as Mimi that not only offers quality but also fashionable outfits. From trendy youthful looks to classic formal ones, the online store has all the latest in trendy and sophisticated wear.InitiativesAs we celebrate International Women’s Day, we appreciate women who have always strived for progress. Julie Gichuru has nurtured various talents, through her Great Debaters Contest show, she has stood for mothers being the brand ambassador for AMREF.Julie has also pioneered Fist to five for change that helped victims and perpetrators of post-election violence which aimed at improving other people’s lives during one of Kenya’s darkest moment in history.She also founded Natembea Campaign which is a project aiming at raising awareness on the importance of footwear and proper hygiene practices. The campaign targets most of the children in Africa who spend most of their early lives barefoot due to their extreme poor conditions.This is despite the fact it may have serious consequences. She believes that ‘with a helping hand we can make a difference’. The Natembea Campaign also aims at ensuring that every child in Africa has access to a decent pair of shoes. The initiative has so far greatly impacted the lives of thousands of children across Kenya.Read Also: Another initiative established by the media personality and her husband Anthony is Footprints Africa Foundation (FAF). The foundation supports Great Debaters Contest & Africa Leadership Dialogues, as well as the Natembea Campaign. Julie through FAF offers scholarships every year and will soon spread its wings and support universities in East Africa. The foundation is guided by the belief that “every human being has the potential to shape their desired future.”The passionate journalist was the brains behind ‘Sunday Live’ a popular news show that airs on Citizen TV. She creatively brought ‘Sunday Live’ that focuses on redefining news presentation by breaking the monotony of the normal day news presentation.Big-heartedJulie is a big-hearted individual who has always shown concern in almost everything she does. Recently, an anonymous person who identified himself as a watchman, opened up about his love and admiration for the entrepreneur and how she was patient and caring enough to give him a mature feedback. Her etiquette and motherly concern enabled her to take time to give sound advice to her ‘Crush.’ She was keen enough to even notice punctuation marks. Isn’t she just one of a kind in the current generation? Awards, endorsements and education.Owing to her high proficiency and aggressiveness, the media icon has been awarded and endorsed by prominent movers and shakers globally. Martin Luther King gave her a salute for her greatness in advocating for non-violence following the 2007-2008 election violence that claimed over 1000 lives and displaced hundreds of thousands. Julie was the first woman to receive the iconic award.She was also declared a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2010. Julie has also been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 20 Young Power Women in Africa. She was also recently listed among the 60 most influential African women in the world.Gichuru holds an LLB law (Legum Baccalaureus ) and an MBA from Cardiff Law School University of Wales and Cardiff Business School University of Wales.Read Also: The world would clearly benefit more if there would be others in the same league as Julie.
