I was sexually abused when I was 12 - Lupita Nyongo’s sister’s heartbreaking confession

Following Lupita’s shocking confession, her sister Zawadi Nyong’o has come out to share her abuse story which she endured at the age of 12.
“I have so many #MeToo stories of my own that I don’t even know where to begin. Each time we speak out though, it brings much-needed healing to ourselves and the world. This last week has awakened my levels of consciousness in so many ways. I’m in deep, deep reflection mode & trying to find my voice. My voices. I have many of them. And one of them feels the need to say something for my sister. I have 3. I have complicated relationships with each of them because they are like mirrors to my soul. Sometimes I don’t want to see what they have to show me. Sometimes it’s really painful. A lot of times, to be honest. But I would take a bullet for any of them, any day. They will always be my baby sisters and I will always feel a sense of responsibility to protect them, even when I can’t or don’t know how. ” She wrote.
She then went on to disclose that she feels the pain of millions of women who have undergone abuse since she had her first experience with sexual abuse at just 12.
“As a #feminist, I feel the pain of millions of women I will never even know or meet and have dedicated my life to this work since the first #MeToo experience I had with sexual abuse when I was just 12. When it is my own blood, it takes me to places that I don’t even know how to describe in words. But when I find the words, I will speak. We must continue to speak our truths no matter what. Even if it is to just one trusted person. ”
Zawadi then went on to share a special message for her sisters Lupita, Wam and Fiona.

I pray that you will never have to tell another #MeToo story and that the world will be a safer place for you and all women and girls. Your voice matters. Every single one of you reading this. ”
