Citizen TV reporter reveals why he did not take multi-million gift from Victor Wanyama

Citizen TV sports anchor Mike Okinyi has revealed the reason he did not take the Mercedes Benz ML 350 gift given to him by Kenyan international footballer Victor Wanyama.

Mike said that the car had an import tax of Sh18.5 million which he would pay if he was to ship it to Kenya.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive show which he co-hosted alongside Jeff Koinange, the reporter revealed that he was in London for an exchange programme where he met the Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder.

Victor Wanyama who at the time was playing for Southampton then gave him a ride in the custom made Mercedes Benz ML 350, which he liked and asked Wanyama to give him as gift.

Customs duty

Mike disclosed that Wanyama accepted his request and asked him to pay customs duty, and ship it to Kenya, but he could not because of the Sh18.5 million tax.

“Wanyama told me, you want the Mercedes, take it, ship it to Mombasa and drive it to Nairobi,” he said.

Victor Wanyama and his brother McDonald Mariga were guests on JKLive on Wednesday.
