Why Gospel Musicians refused to perform alongside Willy Paul

They ran away...

Willy Paul performing

Now during The Groove Party, a few artistes refused to perform after Willy Paul, something which led to speculations that they were not too fond of Willy Paul as they asked the organisers to remove their names from the performance line-up after realising that Willy Paul was performing.

During an interview on Hot 96, Jalang’o sought to find out what really transpired during the sold-out concert.

“Ulipanda stage watu wengine wakatoroka wakasema they won’t perform after you?” Jalang’o asked. (Translation: You got on stage and some people ran away and said that they would not perform after you.)

To which Willy Paul replied with “Because they know me, they know my work, they know what I do. Ukiwekwa after nimeperform, sijui itakuwa aje.”

“Some people requested to be removed from the list since they didn’t know what do after Willy Paul’s performance ..” Jalang’o told his co-host Jeff Koinange.

In the same interview, Willy Paul also spoke up about creating and performing songs with secular artistes like Alaine and Sauti Sol.

“Mungu hakukujia watu wanamjua, alikujuia wale wasee wamepotea. Sisemi wenye wa secular wamepotea, but since they don’t sing gospel naamini nafaa kuwavuta. I see no problem working with them. (God did not come for those that don’t know him, he comes for the lost. I am not saying that secular artiste are lost, but since they don’t sing Gospel music, I believe that I should draw them closer to God)” He said.

Before adding “Something I always ask is that ‘God blesses and there are secular artistes who are successful does it mean that’s since they don’t sing gospel is the devil that blesses them?’It’s God who blesses them.”
