Outrage after president splashes 3.2 Million Kshs on makeup
He didn’t wake up like this.
French magazine Le Point pointed out that the good-looking president has already raked up €26,000 (around 3.2 Million Kshs) in makeup bills since he took office in May.
The president spent the money on a personal make-up artist identified simply as Natacha M. to ensure that he was ‘slayed for the gods’ during public functions and foreign trips.
Officials at The Élysée Palace, the French president’s office, defended Macron by saying that the makeup artist was hired on contract and had been called in as a ‘matter of emergency’.
They acknowledged that the money spent on Macron’s beauty was high but it was lesser than some of his predecessors like François Hollande who allegedly spent €30,000 on makeup and €9,895 on a personal barber to help out with his thinning hair.
The officials promised that the makeup expenditure will significantly drop in time. But the damage is already done as this scandal comes at a time when his popularity is at an all-time low.
His declining popularity was exposed by a poll conducted by polling and market research firm Ifop for French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD). The poll revealed that Macron’s "dissatisfaction rating” had risen to 57% from 43% in July.
