Government issues fresh statement on Jimmy Wanjigi's raid
Uhuru's administration speaks on Jimmy Wanjigi's multiple raids.
Police in plain clothe on Tuesday broke into the house of the Nasa financier in Nairobi’s Muthaiga 44 estate, hours after locking down his lavish Caramel Restaurant and Lounge at ABC Place along Waiyaki Way.
Government Spokesperson Mr Eric Kiraithe told journalists in Nairobi on Tuesday that the ongoing raid, siege and probe on businessman Jimi Wanjigi was informed by the great interest of national security.
Another bunch of police officers have also raided Mr Wanjigi’s private offices at Kwacha Place along General Mathenge Road in Westlands. The plain clothed officers have a court order o search the office for fire arms.
It is not clear where Mr Wanjigi is currently is, but police believe that he could be in his house, which has been broken into.
Earlier, Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate issued a search warrant on Mr Wanjigi’s property for suspicion that he is in possession of firearms illegally.
Court injunction
Mr Wanjigi, however, moved to court to block the arbitrary search on his property.
Through his lawyers, and in a file certified as urgent, Mr Wanjigi now wants the Inspector General of Police Mr Joseph Boinnet to be held personally responsible of violating his right and damage of property.
The officers are searching for firearms, explosives, ammunitions, documents related to importation of firearms among others.
On Monday police conducted multiple raids on Mr Wanjigi’s multiple homes and several arsenals recover. A handful of AK47 guns and numerous bullets were recovered from his home in Malindi.
