There’s this common notion that smoking shisha is better than smoking cigarettes but oh how wrong that notion is.

Smoking shisha actually has the exact same effects as smoking cigarettes. That basically means that you are still at risk of getting cancer, suffering from a cardiovascular disease and even having poor mental health amongst other complications.

Shisha is flavored tobacco and it contains every content in cigarettes- and yes that includes tar and nicotine.

Research has shown that the burning charcoal used to heat the pipe produces carbon monoxide which is also inhaled when smoking shisha and this could lead to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. This doesn’t occur in cigarettes by the way.

According to Pulmonary and Bronchial surgeon Dr. Michael Barczok, “Carbon monoxide blocks red bloos cell oxygen transport for several hours, so that they are no longer able to bind oxygen.”

Some signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include dizziness, nausea and blurred vision.

So no, the water that the smoke passes through is not a filter for purifying that shisha smoke.

The study was published in the International Journal of Epidemiology.
