The study was conducted among Italian men to verify whether the quality of semen can be used as an indicator for a man's health.

The men with lower sperm counts were found to have a higher risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

With the likelihood of lower testosterone, this led to reduced muscle mass and bone density which could lead to osteoporosis.

There was no cause and effect found between low sperm count and these health issues but they are linked.
