What different colours and texture of your period say about your health
What your period is telling you.
The menses can provide information about hormone health among other important things.
Here are 6 things the colour of your period says.
1. Pink
If your menstrual blood is pink you may have low oestrogen levels if the flow is lighter than usual.
This is especially common among athletes or women with intense workouts.
If left unchecked, it can increase risk of osteoporosis.
Other reasons for this kind of flow are: poor nutrition, polycystic ovary syndrome, or perimenopause.
2. Watery
A white-ish diluted flow can be symptom of anaemia.
3. Dark brown
This means that you may have bits of uterine lining and blood that are just now getting out of the body which is normal.
It especially happens right before or after your period.
4. Dark red with clots
This could low progesterone levels and high estrogen levels. Heavy clotting can indicate a serious hormonal imbalance.
Another possibility is uterine fibroids.
5. Mix of grey and red
You could have a sexually transmitted infection.
This will be accompanied by a foul stench.
6. Bright red
This is healthy and regular.
