Tips on how to handle going back to work after a break

Any working individual has struggled with going back to work after a break-whether it was a week-long break or more.

The early mornings; the stacks of files that could be waiting for you not to forget the early mornings.

Basically, you feel like you’re learning everything for the first time and are always wishing for someone to “take me back” to your holiday.

As much as we all dread it though, we always show up and pick up from where we left off but most of the time, your mind is usually not in the game even a week after reporting back to work.

For everyone struggling with going back to work, try these hacks to help ease the process of getting back to work.

1.Don’t rush

Take your time to ease back into the swing of things.

Catch up with your colleagues on how their breaks were; allow yourself to reminisce those times and eventually get back to your normal routine.

This should not be confused for slacking however; work still has to be done.

2.Go through your calendar before going to work

Before going on that break/vacation there were a couple of things that you might have left pending and you may have scheduled them for after your get back from your vacation.

Go through your calendar, preferably two days before you have to report to work and find out what these things are so that you are able to plan in advance.

3.Plan to go out for lunch outside the office

Change your scenery to avoid feeling like a zombie within the workplace. Those breaks help you to re-energize in order to get through the rest of the day.

4.Prioritize on the tasks that you have to do

As mentioned before, you probably had some pending work before going on vacation.

Instead of diving into the very first one that you come across, work on those that are most urgent first as you work your way down to finishing all the work.

5.Leave the office on time

Remember what we said about not rushing into work? When it comes to leaving work make sure that you leave work on time so that you set the pace for yourself while you work.
