Kenya's top five rarely recognized super women

It’s two days to International Women’s day, 2017 and the theme for this year highlights “Women in the Changing World of work: Planet 50-50 by 2030.”

In Kenya there has been an impressive growth of women who have become authorities in the business industry with many of them coining their own niche from focusing on reducing the plight of women in various aspects.

Over the years we have watched them change the lives of many. It’s not just getting ends meet, its passion.

Meet some of Kenya’s most iconic women that are rarely recognized for their great deeds.

1. Dr Jennifer Riria

Group CEO of Kenya Women’s Holding is a distinguished micro finance banker, practitioner, researcher and gender specialist. She has held various office of leadership and was admitted to Ernst & Young Global Hall of fame after winning Entrepreneur of the year 2013 and 2014. KWH is a micro finance, banking and insurance group with Holding is a micro finance, banking and insurance group that works with over 900,000 women and employs 2,800 people It is Kenya’s largest micro-finance provider working together with many leading civil rights organizations.

2. Helen Njoroge

The procurement world is a tough one in Kenya and Helen recognizes the problem. Her company, Tenders Kenya, advertises all the procurement opportunities in Kenya from the public and private sector. Business women can now access tenders through the online platform that also includes all the procurement systems.

3. Megan MacDonald

Through her enterprise, Sasa Designs by the Deaf, a lot of deaf women are offered meaningful employment and training that allows them to earn a living and make ends meet for their children. Megan is an adamant social entrepreneur who realized her desire to help after being hired as a business manager of a small fund raising project where she saw a much greater potential.

4. Lucy Kapkirwok

She is the founder of SanPad a low cost innovation aimed at providing lost cost solutions for menstrual management in poor communities. San pad has helped by providing the girl child with safe and healthy means to deal menstrual challenges and at the same time sensitize them on women’s health. The pads are pant like and do not require to be washed or reused. They are also very environment friendly.

5. Judith Owigar

Meet the lovely tech-prenuer and Co-founder of Akira Chix who has a vision to inspire women in the technology to innovate and develop solutions in Africa. Akira Chix is a nonprofit organization that seeks to empower women in technological skills and also financially to help them invent solutions and lead their communities.
